Hanabusa Votes Against 9th Attempt to Reopen Government in Pieces

Statement

U.S. Representative Colleen Hanabusa (HI-01) once again urged the House Republican leadership to bring the clean continuing resolution to the floor for a vote, after opposing the 9th attempt to fund only select agencies while the majority of government remains closed.

"Today's bill funds only limited activities of the National Nuclear Security Administration, while ignoring other critical agencies funded by the Energy and Water Appropriations Bill," said Hanabusa. "This measure does nothing to reopen the Department of Energy's Office of Environment Management, which provides funds for the safe cleanup of nuclear weapons development and research; it also fails to fund the Corps of Engineers, which suspended all major contracting awards and will have to close 2,500 recreation sites tomorrow, hurting private companies and job creation.

"We are now at Day 11 of this unnecessary government shutdown, and I continue to be in disbelief over how long the House Republican leadership will allow the American people to suffer, while they figure out how to save face for causing this crisis. We must end this insanity right now. Mr. Speaker, bring the clean continuing resolution to the floor -- you know you have the votes to pass it -- and let's get everyone back to work."

The bill passed the House by a vote of 248-176 and now heads to the Senate where Majority Leader Harry Reid said he would not bring individual spending bills to the floor. President Obama has already issued a veto threat for this bill.
